Ultimate Guide to Veils

So you have found your dress, now its time to pick out the perfect veil to complete your bridal look! When choosing the perfect veil its all about complimenting you and your gown.  The possibilities are endless, but no worries here are a few tips and trick to help find the dress best suited for you and your gown!

Length

The first thing to consider when picking out your veil is the length you prefer. Do you prefer a short and simple Elbow length veil or a full dramatic Cathedral length veil? The most common lengths are Fingertip which will fall at your fingertips when your hands are at your sides, and Cathedral which often ends past the train of your gown. Its best to try both lengths in your appointment to see what look you like best.

Shape

The second thing to consider is the shape of your veil to compliment your gown. There is the straight cut or U-cut, which is a classic and will pair nicely with any gown. An angel cut veil creates a V-shape which will fall in beautiful cascades in the back, which will suit fit and flare dresses. Handkerchief veils or square cut create voluminous layers which will compliment bohemian style or whimsical dresses. The last shape will be the circle or oval veils this shape will give you volume by adding a blusher. a blusher will be the piece that drapes over the face, often used in traditional ceremonies.

Finish

Next thing will be finishes, the simplest finish will be the raw cut tulle. Other trims include satin ribbon, organza ribbon as well as pencil stitching,  Having a trim will help outline the veil and make it easier to photograph. If you want full drama you can chose a beaded veil or a romantic lace veil.

Get the Look: Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding was such a beautiful event! It was the royal wedding we have waited eagerly for and we are happy to say it did not disappoint. From the ceremony to the dress and beautiful moments in between we are so overjoyed to get to see it all. The bride stunned in a ¾ sleeve crepe modified A-line gown, which made her look simply elegant. Then she wowed in a sophisticated high neck fit and flare gown. Needless to say, both gowns left us speechless!

To keep the spirit of the Royal Wedding, we’ve got some looks from our designers that are simple and elegant much like the new Duchess of Sussex.

Bridal Shopping 101

First things first. Congratulations on your engagement! Now that you’ve said the most important “Yes!” now it time to begin your search for the dream dress! We know you probably have a million questions but we are hear to help. Here are our top 5 tips to make the most out of your bridal shopping experience.

1.       Define your look and create a Vision

When it comes to wedding planning having a clear vision of the overall day and your look is crucial to finding the dress. Start with honing in on your personal style and where you want to get married. The venue and the dress are what define the tone for your big day. Are you having a chic city wedding, relaxed beach wedding or classic church nuptials? Once you have done that you will have a clear vison of what you need to look for in your dress.

2.       Research styles and Designers

Now it' s time to research what styles, fabrics and designers that will help bring your vision to life. Pinterest, Instagram and Bridal Magazines are excellent places to start your research.  Be sure to research designers and their price points so that you don't go over budget. Save your images and bring them to your bridal appointment, this will help the consultant better understand what you are looking for!

3.       Make your appointment

It's officially dress shopping time! Research local bridal shops that you would like to book your appointment with. If you are look for a specific designer, stores will list them on their website or you can always call ahead if there is something specific you are looking for.

The first thing brides need to know is the Bridal timeline, which is how long it takes for the dresses to be ordered and altered before your big day. Dresses take 4-6 months to be ordered and you want to allow for a 2 month cushion for alterations and the bridal salons needs about a month as puffer. Ideally, Brides should order their gown 9-11 months before their wedding.

4.       Prepare for your appointment

The appointment is booked now it's time to shop!

First, make sure to bring proper undergarments, such as spanx, strapless bra and nude under wear, This will help you better visualize the look and fit of the dress.

Second, limit your bridal party. It is best to not bring too many people to your appointment as it can make the appointment very overwhelming. One to two trusted opinions is more than enough to help find the one. Also, if some people can't make it, its always a good idea to coordinate FaceTime while you are shopping.

5.       Have fun!

This is one of the most joyous times of your life and you deserve to enjoy it! So relax, and always remember to have fun. Keep in mind that this is a process that takes time to narrow down to the "one". Don't stress and trust that everyone is here for you to ensure you will be beautiful, happy and the bride you were always meant to be.

Vision of Love

Inspiration Boards: An Essential First Step Toward the Aisle

Whether you've been planning your dream wedding your entire life or have never given thought to the idea, an inspiration board is a cornerstone of wedding planning.

Also referred to as mood boards or vision boards- inspiration boards are a fun way to flex your creativity by making your desires for your dream wedding tangible. You can chose to make a physical board or a digital collage (try free online photo editors, such as Google Photos, or a wedding geared option like Dessy Group's styleboard app). The idea is to find a few pictures- usually no more than 15, which convey the essence of your design- colors, textures, themes, etc.

Your inspiration board then becomes the perfect tool to introduce your vendors (florist, baker, bridal stylist)or wedding planner, to your vision and a great reference to ensure you don't veer too far off track!

Spotlight: Bridal Gown-Meet Florence!

A standout from designer Kelly Faetanini's SS17 collection

Pretty in Pink! Florence is a stunning ball gown wedding dress that is bound to ensure all eyes on you for your big day! A classic silhouette, beginning at the sweetheart neckline: the blush colored tulle dons an ombre effect, down to the bottom of it's horsehair hemmed skirt. Oh and did we mention this showstopper has pockets-- Yup! Great for you to stash your something borrowed, hide sweaty palms or just enjoy the comfort of knowing they're there!

Florence is just one of many beauts from fab designers that will be carried at our McLean, Virginia location opening this Fall!  Stay tuned for more designer/gown profiles, as we count down to our Grand Opening!

Shop the Trend: Detachable Trains

Allure Bridals Couture Style C387F offers the best of both worlds!

Contrary to what you may see in media coverage of celeb weddings (see Kevin Hart's recent wedding to Eniko Parrish), two wedding dresses may not be realistic for most of us. For those who want to have your cake and eat it too, this modular trend can afford you that flexibility without breaking the bank. Want a sleek, mermaid silhouette? You've got it! How about a long, lace train? You can have that, too!
